Questions, answered
Measure the length of each wall section you'll tile, then multiply by the height from countertop to cabinets, usually about 18 in. Add the area behind the range if it runs taller, and subtract windows. A Polycam scan of the kitchen captures counter runs and cabinet heights, so the numbers come straight from the room.
Take the backsplash square footage and add about 10% for cuts around outlets, windows and corners, or 15% or more for patterns like herringbone. Many kitchen backsplashes come in around 30 sq ft, but L-shaped and island layouts vary a lot.
Cost depends mostly on the tile you choose, from ceramic subway tile to glass, stone or handmade tile. The calculator estimates what your backsplash costs in your area from your kitchen size, so you can compare options before you buy.
A scan captures interior and exterior dimensions, wall, window and door openings, room labels, furniture and fixtures, including counter runs and cabinets. Multi-floor homes come out as labeled 2D and 3D plans.
Standard interior captures are accurate to within about half an inch. Busy kitchens, partial scan coverage and your device can widen that tolerance, so review dimensions on site and correct anything before you export.
Business adds floor plan exports, advanced measure tools, a shared team library, point cloud exports, virtual walkthroughs and AI-generated reports to the basic features, which makes it easy to share a measured kitchen with your contractor. It starts with a free 7-day trial.
Floor plan exports in PDF, PNG, SVG, DXF and CSV are on Business and above, with point cloud exports (PLY, LAS, geo-referenced LAS, PTS, XYZ and DXF) and the Spatial Report as a PDF. 3D model exports (OBJ, DAE, FBX, GLTF, STL and USDZ) start on Basic.
