Questions, answered
Measure the perimeter of each room, then subtract the width of every doorway and any wall covered by built-ins or cabinets. Add about 10% for miter cuts and mistakes. A 12 × 14 ft room has a 52 ft perimeter, so it needs roughly 50–55 ft after doors and waste.
Divide your linear feet by the length of each piece, commonly 8, 12 or 16 ft, and round up. Longer pieces mean fewer joints on long walls but are harder to transport. A Polycam floor plan lists each wall's exact length, which makes planning the cut list much easier.
Usually, yes. Casing trims each doorway, roughly 17 linear feet per side for a standard interior door. The calculator includes baseboard and casing so the trim order matches. Scanning with Polycam counts every door and window opening for you.
A scan captures interior and exterior dimensions, wall, window and door openings, room labels, furniture and fixtures, so every wall length and doorway is on the plan. Multi-floor homes come out as labeled 2D and 3D plans.
Standard interior captures are accurate to within about half an inch, plenty for ordering trim. Space complexity, scan coverage and your device can widen that tolerance, so review dimensions on site and correct anything before you export.
