Divide square feet by 9. A 12 × 15 ft bedroom is 180 sq ft, or 20 square yards. Many US stores quote carpet by the square yard, so converting first makes quotes easy to compare. Enter your room size in the calculator to get your carpet and pad quantity.
Carpet comes off rolls of fixed width, usually 12 ft. Wider rooms need seams, and leftover strips often can't be reused, so plan on 10–20% extra depending on the room's shape and pile direction. An exact Polycam floor plan helps your installer plan seams with less waste.
Yes. The calculator covers carpet and pad together, since you buy them together and measure them the same way. Installers often quote stairs, furniture moving and old carpet removal separately, so ask for those line items when you compare quotes.
A scan captures interior and exterior dimensions, wall, window and door openings, room labels, furniture and fixtures, and multi-floor layouts as labeled 2D and 3D plans. Your installer gets each room's exact shape, which makes seams easier to plan.
Standard interior captures are accurate to within about half an inch, which is more precise than carpet is cut. Space complexity, scan coverage and your device can widen that tolerance, so review dimensions on site and correct anything before you export.
