Questions, answered
Order about 7–10% more than the room's square footage for a straight lay. Plan on 15–20% for diagonal, herringbone or chevron layouts, or rooms with many corners. Hardwood varies from batch to batch, so buying extra up front helps the color match for later repairs.
Divide your total square footage, including waste, by the coverage printed on the box, then round up. Box coverage varies by brand and board width, often about 18–30 sq ft. Accurate room dimensions from a Polycam scan keep you from paying for boxes you don't need.
Yes. Both are measured the same way, by square footage. They differ in price, thickness and where they can go: engineered boards handle basements and moisture better. The calculator estimates what your hardwood costs in your area.
A scan captures interior and exterior dimensions, wall, window and door openings, room labels, furniture and fixtures, and multi-floor layouts as labeled 2D and 3D plans. You get exact square footage for each room, plus the doorways where hardwood meets other floors.
Standard interior captures are accurate to within about half an inch. Complex rooms, gaps in scan coverage and your device can widen that tolerance, so review dimensions on site and fix anything before you export and order.
