Questions, answered
Plan on about 10% extra for a straight-lay pattern, and 15–20% for diagonal, herringbone or large-format tile, which need more cuts. Buy everything from the same dye lot, because shades can differ between batches, and add the overage before you order.
Measure each wall's width by its tiled height and add the walls together. Then subtract windows and niches you won't tile, and add the shower floor as its own area. Scanning the bathroom with Polycam captures wall heights and openings, so you can skip the awkward measuring in a tight space.
The square footage stays the same, but larger tiles usually mean more waste at the edges, and small mosaics come in sheets. Tile is sold by the box, so round up to whole boxes after adding overage. Enter your area in the calculator to see quantity and local cost.
A scan captures interior and exterior dimensions, wall, window and door openings, room labels, furniture and fixtures, so you get wall heights and every opening to tile around. Multi-floor homes come out as labeled 2D and 3D plans.
Standard interior captures are accurate to within about half an inch. Tight spaces like showers, partial scan coverage and your device can widen that tolerance, so review dimensions on site and correct anything before you export.
